Cheese

Our selection of cheeses and cheese related products seems to have grown as the business has over the past 10 years.  At any one time we keep approximately 40 types of cheese and aim to have something to offer almost everyone.  At the moment centre stage is going to Vacherin Mont D'Or which is making a bid for freedom!

We keep a variety of  British and European cheeses and keep a selection of the wonderful cheeses made right here in Broadway at Gorsehill Abbey organic dairy farm by Diane and Michael Stacey.

We encourage our staff to research and learn about the cheeses and continue their professional development so they are well informed and able to converse with knowledge and enthusiasm about cheese.  Our ladies and gents will be happy to discuss the type of milk the cheese is made of, whether it is suitable for vegetarians, whether it is pasteurised or not and tell customers a tiny bit about the country and region in which the cheese is made.  We encourage customers to try different cheeses in store and we can also point you in the direction of which cheeses are particularly excellent due to seasonal fluctuations.  This saves you time and money in buying only the cheeses you will really enjoy rather than the lottery of pre-packed blocks of cheaper cheese purchased in supermarkets.  We don't profess to know all the answers but we are always keen to learn and willing to research any queries you may have.

Once you have selected your cheese we can help you match your choices with crackers or bread, chutneys, fruit pastes and jellies, fresh fruits and even a bottle of wine or port if you fancy!

Quick and easy Italian supper

We make lasagne al forno for our deli counter and it makes a great quick and easy supper to reheat at home.  We can also make you up a delicious salad box, so minimal effort on your part and maximum enjoyment!

The recipe we use was kindly given to us by Marcello Cinelli, a very talented chef from a family of Tuscan restaurateurs who Alan had the pleasure of working with a few years ago.  Marcello is still one of our dearest friends and we are delighted to be able to use his family's recipe.

Yet another delivery of beautiful produce direct from Rungis market in Paris.  These fabulous aubergines and garlic make the basis of a wonderfully simple pasta sauce as follow

1 small Roscoff onion finely sliced
1 aubergine cut in to 2cm cubes
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 clove garlic finely chopped
1 jar of Pomodorina (chopped tomatoes)
2 or 3 large basil leaves
Salt and pepper to season

Gently saute the onion and aubergine until softened and lightly golden.  Add the garlic and continue to saute for 2-3 minutes.  Add the Pomodorina, stir thoroughly and cover.  Allow to cook gently for 15-20 minutes.  Season to taste.  Finely chop the basil and stir through at the end of cooking.  Serve with tagliatelle.

All ingredients available from Broadway Deli.

Aperol Spritz

Aperol Spritz is a delicious Italian aperitivo, much loved by the indigenous Venetians - many of them drink it for breakfast!  Whilst we aren't suggesting an early morning drink, it is wonderful once the sun gets over the yard arm.

It's very simple - add 2 parts Aperol, 3 parts Prosecco, 1 part sparkling water to a glass of ice cubes and garnish with either a slice of orange or an olive, depending on your preference.  All ingredients are available here at Broadway Deli (mainly because it's one of Louise's favourite drinks!)

Enjoy.

Our beautiful little shop

There are many advantages to working in such a beautiful location, but a particularly welcome one is all the amazing images of our shop which are sent to us.  The shop is photographed many times every day, in glorious sunshing, driving rain and heavy snow.  We are also proud to be the subject of a great many paintings and sketches and when these come into our possession (people are very kind!) we are delighted to hang them on our walls.  When you are next in the shop why not see how many you can spot?  You might need to take your time over a really good cup of coffee to make sure you get them all!

One of my favourites is the little work of art given to us recently by the very talented Barbara Beale.  Barbara is a fellow Londoner now also living here in Broadway and until taking a well earned retirement was also a fellow trader running Beales of Broadway.  We think a second career in the art world beckons Barbara!

Fool Brittania with Dom Joly 1st September 2012

We were delighted to play a supporting role to Dom Joly's asbo vicar in his new series Fool Brittania which started last night.  The following website gives detail of screening times http://www.comedy.co.uk/guide/tv/fool_britannia/episodes/1/1

The filming was done earlier in the year and it was fascinating to watch this kind of programme being made at such close quarters.  Dressed as an eccentric and oddly behaved vicar, Dom stood outside the shop whilst the film crew were hidden in Tisanes tearooms over the road.  Dom's microphone was hidden in the wheels of our fresh produce display barrows.   The asbo vicar took issue with a child (actor) playing with a remote controlled car and smashed the car to bits with his cricket bat.  Many unsuspecting passers-by were fooled into thinking this was a real incident.  Cotswold resident Dom has filmed a lot of his new series in the beautiful locations this area has to offer.  We were very pleased to have been part of it all.  Please let us know if you recognised us.

Really good coffee with Extract Coffee

We use delicious Extract coffee plus organic milk to produce a truly fine result.  Latte art is tricky and takes lots of training and practice so we are incredibly fortunate that even our youngest recruits like Will are making fabulous coffee.

Bim's Kitchen BBQ sauces and ketchups

Bim's Kitchen sauces and ketchups are one of our new additions and selling really well.  This is a lovely, artisan range which uses top quality ingredients to produce some really delicious products.  We used the hot tangy barbeque sauce and the smoky baobab barbeque sauce on chicken and prawns at the weekend and they went down really well.  (The mysteriously named baobab is the king of superfruits and is packed with vitamins and nutritents).  The sauces are so easy to use, contain a perfect blend of spices and produce mouthwateringly tender and tasty results.  They also do some really hot ones for all you chilli lovers.  We will be organising a tasting day very soon so keep checking the blog for details.  Bim's Kitchen are definitely our new favourites!
